Wichita Housing Help: 3 Different Doors — and What’s Open Right Now
Housing help can be difficult to navigate because different programs serve different needs—and program availability can change.
RRCBA reviewed the City of Wichita’s current Housing & Community Services information on October 1, 2026. Here is the practical picture residents should know right now.
Home Repair Program
The City’s Home Repair Program assists eligible low- and moderate-income homeowners with critical health, safety and preventative-maintenance repairs. City information says assistance may be available for up to $25,000.
Important current update: new applications are temporarily closed October 1–14, 2026 for the annual waitlist renewal. The existing waitlist is being cleared. People who were already on the waitlist and still want assistance must submit a new application when the program reopens October 15.

Housing Stability
The Housing Stability Program is designed for qualifying renter households experiencing homelessness or housing instability related to eviction or pending eviction.
The City’s current page says this program is NOT accepting applications at this time. Residents should not rely on older posts or application links that suggest otherwise; check the current City page before taking action.

Homelessness Programs
The City lists several homelessness-response programs and pathways, including Housing First and Rapid Re-Housing. Access varies by program, and some services use referrals or coordinated-entry processes rather than a general public application.

Where to start
Housing & Community Services is located at 455 N Main, 10th Floor, Wichita, KS 67202. The department’s main phone number is 316-462-3700.
Because funding, waitlists and eligibility can change, always verify the current City page before applying or sharing application instructions.
Why RRCBA is sharing this
Access to a program depends partly on knowing that it exists, understanding what it does and finding the correct entry point. RRCBA is working to make community resources easier to understand while continuing broader work around housing, development and measurable community benefit.
