The Election Season is Over, Now What?

Another election cycle has come and gone. Campaign signs are coming down, the debates are done, and the social media arguments over who should lead are (mostly) quieting. So, now what? Do we sit back and wait for elected officials to shape our future? Or do we remind ourselves that the real power has never been in one seat or office but in our collective will and unity?

Malcolm X once said, "The future belongs to those who prepare for it today." It’s easy to get caught up in the hype of election season, believing that the ballot box is the ultimate power. But here's a thought: voting is only one part of the equation. The true power, the kind that lasts beyond election cycles, lies in us. In our ability to come together, push forward, and make change happen from the ground up.

Let’s be honest: politicians come and go. Promises are made, some kept, some forgotten. But our issues, our dreams, our goals for our community? Those stay with us. They don't change based on who's in office. "Power never takes a back step," Malcolm also said. "Only in the face of more power." So, how do we build that power? Through solidarity. Through working together, day in and day out, to uplift our community, hold systems accountable, and create the kind of future we all deserve.

Look, I'm not saying ignore the folks in office – they have roles to play. But we have a role too, and it's far bigger than just casting a vote. It's about staying engaged, staying vocal, and most importantly, staying united. Solidarity isn't just a buzzword; it's our strength, our backbone. And no elected official can take that from us unless we allow it.

So here’s the real question: What kind of future are you ready to create, regardless of who holds office? And, more importantly, are you ready to get on board with us, to help build a future driven by the power of community and unity?

Because if you are, there's work to be done, and it starts with us.
